Meenakshi Temple is also known as Meenakshi Amman Temple and attracts tourists and pilgrims similar. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is named later than the deity and goddess Parvati. Sundareswarar means beautiful Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati is called Meenakshi. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva visited Madurai to marry Parvati because Madurai has been her abode.
The temple complex extends over an area of 6 hectares and dates back to 2500 AD. The temple is known for its beautiful architecture and has 12 gateways (Gopurams), which are 45 to 50 metres in height. The tallest Gopuram of the temple is the southern Gopuram.
The temple contains 985 pillars and 14 towers, with two towers dedicated to the main deities. The current structure of the temple has been built in 16th century by Nayak King of Madurai Vishwanatha Nayak. Tourists can also get a bird’s eye view of the city from the southern Gopuram of the temple.

The Palani Hill Temple, placed on Palani Hills, is devoted to Lord Murugan in the form of Dhandayuthapani. The temple is at a height of around 1500 ft above sea level and is easily reachable from Madurai and Trichy. The holy pool, Saravana Poigai, is located within the premises of the temple.
Tiru Avinankudi, a 2000 year old temple, is situated on Palani Hills which has the idol of Dhandayuthapani. This idol is made using a mixture of nine poisons, known as Navapashana.
A special bacterium grows on this idol which preserves the food offered as abhishekam for years. Thaipusam (January), Panguni Uthiram (April), Agni Nakshatram (May), Visakham (June) and Skanda Shashti (November) are some of the prominent festivals celebrated in the temple.

Kanyakumari Beach is a beach destination and religious spot situated towards the southern-most tip of peninsular India. The sun set and sun rise at Kanyakumari Beach, particularly during Chaitrapurnima are highly popular among visitors. During Chaitrapurnima, visitors can watch both sunset and moon rise simultaneously at Kanyakumari Beach.
Kanyakumari Beach has rocky shores and the sea is rough due to the confluence of the three waters – Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. The sand of Kanyakumari Beach is famous for its softness and diverse hues.

Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple
Ramanathaswamy Temple, lies on the eastern side of the island, having different types of corridors and sculptured pillars on both the sides. The temple also has the longest corridor in the world, which is 197 metres long from East to West and is 133 metres wide from South-North. The construction work in the temple has been taken by various rulers since 12th century. Daily pooja in the temple is performed in the morning to the Spadikalingam that was given by the Shankaracharya to this temple.
This temple is considered as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple complex extends up to 15 acres, with 1200 metres long hallway, which is lined on either side by 4000 or more pillars. There is also a 12 foot long and 9 foot tall Nandi sculpture inside the temple.
Pilgrims take bath in the 22 theertha kundams before entering the temple. It is believed that the water in these kundams has medicinal properties that can cure tourists of many ailments. This temple finds mention in the Hindu mythological epic, Ramayana and it is believed that the deity in the temple was installed by Lord Rama. After defeating Ravana, Lord Rama installed a Shiva Lingam in this temple for offering his prayers to Lord Shiva.

Velankanni Church, one of the religious sites, is located on the Bay of Bengal coast. The holy shrine was constructed in the memory of the Lady of Health, also known as the Madonna of Velankanni. She was renowned among the people for possessing miraculous powers. Dedicated to Virgin Mary and the Heavenly Mother, this church is popular as a Sacred Arogya Matha Church.
According to the manuscripts, Mother Mary once visited this shrine with Jesus in the 16th or early 17th century. It is also said that Mary appeared in the dreams of Father Arulappa and expressed her desire of having a church in her name. For constructing the same, Arulappa along with J.P Dsouza, an engineer, finally established an Annai Velankanni Church at the site.
Representing a Gothic style of architecture, the building of the church is painted white, while the roof is covered with red tiles. The church organises Holy masses in eight languages namely, English, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, Konkani and Marathi.
After the safe landing of the Portuguese sailors, they built a chapel whose yearly feast is organized in the month of September as Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Kodaikanal is a hill town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It’s set in an area of granite cliffs, forested valleys, lakes, waterfalls and grassy hills. At 2,000 meters above sea level, the town centers around man-made, star-shaped Kodaikanal Lake, bordered by evergreen forest. Rowing boats can be hired, and hikers and cyclists follow the 5k Lake Road path around the shore.
